There are many ways life changes in the summer, and I know plenty of people who work so hard during the winter months because they want to feel confident when summer gets here, but then the whole summer is spent undoing that hard work! This won’t be you! Here are a few things we will talk about this month to help you plan around these 4 topics and keep up with your fitness goals:
While these are all fun and amazing things, if we don’t think ahead we may find ourselves going crazy trying to keep up with everything, and in that we lose focus on our own fitness goals.
BBQ’s & Parties!
1. Exercise before the BBQ/Party! This goes for anytime of the year, if there is a party where you know you will be eating more than normal go ahead and burn extra calories through exercising the day of or the day before! You will then feel less guilty and it may even give you a reality check as to how much you will eat at the party. When I remind myself that it sometimes takes a killer 60 minute workout to burn 400-500 calories it can help me make better food choices.
2. Enjoy Fresh Fruit and Veggies! It’s summer, enjoy all the seasonal fruit that is actually less expensive than other times of the year! Yes, fruit has lots of sugar, but it’s still a better choice than Cheetos or something! You can also throw some veggies on the grill with olive oil or coconut oil and mix up how you may usually prepare them.
3. Drink water! Why waste calories by drinking them when there may be crazy good food on the grill waiting for you? Drink water and help your body out!
4. Bring your own food! Offer to bring a dish that you know is ‘safe’ for your health goals. A friend of mine told me that she always offers to bring something so this way she knows she will have a healthy option available.
These tips are simple, but the last thing I want you thinking is that you can’t enjoy all the fun things of summer because you are afraid they will throw off your health. You can do everything in moderation and see that this is a lifestyle change, not just a ‘diet’!
