So you want to lose weight? I’m guessing it is not a new desire or goal, right? So what is going to make ‘this time’ different? We are going to identify 5 key steps to help you lose weight FOR GOOD!
1. Set a Goal
You need to set measurable goals that are also realistic. To say you are going to lose weight, or that you will lose 50 pounds is vague. You need to know how much you will lose and how fast is realistic. Your goal should also include more than a number on the scale. It needs to include what changes you will make in your diet, how many hours a week you will workout, who you will check in with and when, rewards for your progress, and a few other items. You also need to be realistic that if your schedule is crazy busy right now you will have to make some changes in order to make losing weight a reality.
2. Avoid Being a Perfectionist
I can’t stress this enough- you don’t have to be perfect to lose weight. And usually, the perfectionist mindset is the perfect set up for failure. How many times have you started a workout plan or program and messed one thing up and said screw it to the whole thing? Just keep going! You will get sick. You will get injured. You will have an ‘off’ day. You will eat a piece of pizza. But if you keep going you will reach your goal. Don’t use the excuse that you have to do everything perfect in order to lose weight. It’s a lie that is going to keep you in the cycle of starting and stopping over and over again.
3. Find An Accountability Group or Partner
When left alone to cravings and the option to skip your workout, how long will you last? I mean really, be honest? I know that even after losing 35+ pounds I need others to keep me in check because I can come up with the best excuses in the world to skip my workout or eat stuff I shouldn’t. 4. Find A Workout You Love
Just because all your friends love Zumba or Spin Class doesn’t mean you will. Just because TurboFIRE is my all time favorite program doesn’t mean that it will be yours. Try out different activities until you find one that you enjoy. If you want this to be life long weight loss don’t skip this process. And if you are down to the last 5 pounds you need to lose you may need to mix things up again. Do something new and invite a friend to make it more fun!
5. Don’t Start Tomorrow
This is simply an excuse to keep going with what you are currently doing. It’s an excuse to eat like garbage tonight and then ‘make up for it’ tomorrow. It’s going to keep you from reaching your goal and living the life you deserve and desire. Start today! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said I’ll start on Monday! Stop saying tomorrow and start today!
