Are you just too tired to exercise? I want to set you free today if you are struggling to exercise 5-6 times a week…IT’S OKAY if you do less! What? Yes, here’s the deal, if you are busy I get that you may not be able to fit in 5-6 workouts a week. (Even if you are doing a Beachbody program that has a 6 day a week schedule.) Let me tell you what had me thinking this…
So a few weeks ago Chris was teaching in Belize, and I was obviously being full time mom. (And no one knew I was pregnant as we hadn’t told people yet, so think 10 weeks pregnant just trying to stay awake everyday and keep from feeling nauseous!) Joshua had an archery camp which was great because this boy loves to be active and with friends and that got him out from 9-12 every morning. Then in the afternoons I would plan something fun for both the boys. One day it was meeting up with friends at the park, 2 afternoons we went to the pool with friends, one afternoon we went to a friends house, and then one evening we met up with some family that came up to camp for a fun night by the beach. Everyday I was thinking that I needed to exercise, but you know what, I was EXHAUSTED! Sure, I could have got up early, but I was TIRED! I could have told the boys to chill while I did my quick workout, but instead I chose to meet up with friends as I took the boys to fun afternoon activities (which is also needed social time for me with my friends!).
Now here’s the deal, it’s not like I was sitting on my bum at home each day doing nothing. IF that was the case I would think I need to re-evaluate if I really am too tired to workout, or if I am just making excuses. So Saturday of that week finally rolled around and I had planned NOTHING! Chris was coming home that night so I wanted to just have a chill day and relax. Which is what we did. It wasn’t until about 4pm that I thought, I’d love to do a workout right now. So I did Les Mills Pump. That was after I had pretty much sat and done NOTHING for an entire day. (Aside from feed kids, do dishes, laundry, break up fighting, etc. You know, a moms day of doing ‘nothing’!)
So why am I telling you this? There are times in our lives that we really do need evaluate our schedules and get our exercise in. And then there are also times that we need to make the most of each day, and just because we don’t get a ‘technical’ workout in, know that it’s okay. I usually set a minimum goal to exercise 4x a week for at least 30 minutes. Sure, 6x a week would be ideal, but life doesn’t always allow that. I just want you to know that sometimes you are really TOO TIRED! The last thing you need is one more thing to feel guilty about, so know that it’s a season and you can get back to your routine soon. These times are a great time to focus on your eating, and my goal is just to maintain my current weight when those seasons occur (and I’m not pregnant!).
