It’s almost daily that I receive messages and/or emails from women sharing how they ‘failed again’ in their weight loss efforts.
“I ate sugar and I said I wouldn’t.”
“I was going to get up everyday this week before work and exercise and I didn’t.”
“I just don’t have it in me to have the body I want, I’m not strong enough.”
Do any of these resonate with you? Have you said or thought them yourself?
I have. There’s no shame in that.
Where it’s frustrating is when this is all we can start to see about ourselves…I’m a loser. I’m fat. I have no self-control. My body is gross. Why even bother when I always fail. And when that’s all we start to hear it’s a scary place to be.
Here’s what I want to tell you…
You are more than the body you live in. Your value comes from beyond the tiny little scale that lives in your house. Just because you ate a brownie tonight doesn’t mean you are a loser!
Often, many of the comments above are from attempts to reach health goals that are based out of the wrong motivation, or are made based on unrealistic expectations. It’s good to want to be healthy, and feel good about yourself, but make sure your goals are realistic and in line with who you are and the lifestyle you want to live.
So why would I say this is spiritual?
I believe that you were made with unique gifts and talents that those around you need. That you have light inside you that gets snuffed out when all you can see or think about yourself is negative. Your health is more than a battle to look a certain way and be healthy, it’s a battle to be FREE. To laugh and be present with your friends and family. To have confidence when you share something you are passionate about at work, church, or your community group.
When you are so lost in body shaming yourself, the bigger loss is that you are silenced.
And life is too short to live in silence.
So be free my friend. Set up a time to chat with me about working together if you need support to reach your weight loss/health goals. Don’t let your voice be silenced.
I challenge you to go out and do something this week that you have been holding out on doing until you ‘lose the weight’. Life is happening now, it’s already started and I don’t want you to miss it!
With all my love,
Sarah
