A few years ago I lost 35 pounds by working out and watching my eating, and since then I’ve just been maintaining my weight. I’ve been doing this for so many years now that there is something I have forgotten:
LOSING WEIGHT SUCKS!!!
During our move back to the USA I have gained 6 pounds in the last 6 weeks. Usually I can ‘mess around’ with my calories and stay the same weight (or go up a couple pounds and then go right back down in a few days) but this is a solid 6 pounds that I now have to WORK HARD to get off. I have been reminded of how frustrating it can be to know you need to lose weight while:
-Watching your spouse add tons of calories to their plate and not gain a pound.
-Hating the feeling that your clothes are tight so you’d rather grab the black tops to help slim you out! You know it’s your own fault but you are still frustrated that is so dang hard to to keep everything in check to lose weight.
-Feeling ‘blah’, and fighting the talk in your head that you can start your workouts and eating right again– tomorrow.
It takes so much self-control and discipline to lose weight. Gaining it is easy. Just a few extra 200-300 calories here and there plus skipping workouts and BAM you have your work cut out for you AGAIN!
So here’s where the choice comes in…how long do you go on this road? Do you say screw it and just keep gaining? Do you go on a crazy crash diet that will leave you grumpy and with your energy depleted? Or…
Do you get back on it with your workouts, track your food, and stay active in your accountability group and LOSE THE WEIGHT?
I’m choosing to do just that. Is is easy? NO. Do I have a secret hissy fit inside like a 2 year old when I can’t eat what everyone else is eating? YES! Does it seem unfair that I have to work so hard to keep my body from gaining weight? YES!
Will it be worth it when I fit ‘just right’ in my jeans again? YES!
Will it be worth it when I have energy and lose that ‘blah’ feeling from overeating and skipping my workouts? YES!
Do I have to tell myself this over and over when I want to cheat on my eating? YES!
If you are struggling with your weight right now for whatever reason, I want you to know that I know it sucks to be where you are. You aren’t alone and you aren’t a failure to have gained some back. You can make a choice today to make the change. Do it the right way and get back on track. It should take me about 4 weeks to lose those 6 pounds, I’m adding muscle in, so the scale will move slowly. If you need something new to get going again (I’m starting a new workout series!) I’d love to have you join my next accountability group or 1:1 coachign and I can help you find something you will like!
Thanks for letting me vent!
