So I completely switched up my workout routine this week…I was in week 8 of TurboFIRE which is an amazing cardio conditioning program and decided start the hybrid of it with another program more focused on weight training called ChaLEAN Extreme. SImple, right?
Not so much. Here's what I realized: for whatever reason even though since day one of FIRE I have been thinking I should do the hybrid I just kept going solo with FIRE. Feeling if I changed it up I was quitting. Like I was failing. Which was so weird because it wasn't like I wanted to say I quit working out. Or even saying I hate this FIRE program (I LOVE IT). All I wanted to do was switch it up because I had no idea how much I would miss the previous program I did. And I kept thinking how meshing the two would be the perfect workout routine for me.
So here's my thought for you….Maybe you said you were going to run a marathon as a goal to get back in shape, only to find that after running for a month you realize you really HATE running. Maybe you said you would join a kickboxing class only to find out after one month that you'd rather eat a plate of cat food than go back. Maybe you said you would give up ALL sweets until the end of the year only to realize maybe that was a little over the top and more than you can do right now (or ever?!?!?). Maybe like me you started a new program that you love just to find that you're missing the one you were formerly doing. My answer…SWITCH! STOP! ADD A TREAT ONCE A DAY!!!! IT'S OK!!!!
It's ok to modify or change your workout! As long as you don't stop moving but keep looking for something that you love it's fine. It's your prerogative. YOU ARE THE ONE DOING THE WORKOUT!!! Try yoga, sign up for a spin class, check out TurboJam, whatever you may want to do! Just keep going for it until you finally find your soulmate workout like I have with Turbo. Anyway, just a few thoughts inside my head around quitting my previous workout schedule. Now I am getting the best of both worlds~ FIRE's cardio conditioning which is off the charts and CLX weights training which feels like I get a personal trainer right at home! So I didn't complete the 20 weeks of just FIRE schedule, I did 8 and will now attempt to do the hybrid schedule! It will take me more than 20 weeks because I found with FIRE's 6x a week schedule I just can't manage that much with the kids and life responsibilities- so I'll go it 5x a week!
If you quit something you hate to find something you love~ you will find better fitness results!
(PS: I'm all for sticking to your word and for me it was easy to change things up bc my working out just involves me at home alone. If you've made a plan with someone else to do something then you need to evaluate based those outside factors. You may just have to stick it out bc of the task you've chosen. (Next time you'll know better!) Share your heart- who is going to make you keep doing something you HATE? U gave it a shot, you tried. If you want the lifestyle changes to last you must find a program you actually enjoy (or at least tolerate in the beginning). I'm not talking about quitting bc you're tired or it's too hard mentally/physically. I am talking about quitting/changing because you really are not enjoying it. )
